International Education Week 2009

International Education Week is a week filled with academic and cultural events that highlight the importance of having a globally-focused education.  Below is last year's events. Updates dates will be posted soon for the 2009 events. The week is designated nationally by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.  For more information about the events listed below, contact Beth Lorenz

The new International Education Center, which includes Office of International Students & Scholars, the American English Language Program, and the Office of Education Abroad hosts an open house for the community with international inspired food for all. University Center 4th floor

International Career and Education Expo

On and off-campus groups will have information booths on how students can gain international experience in preparation for their careers.

International Career Panel

Leaders from the local business, political, and non-profit community will have a panel discussion about the importance of students having international study and foreign language experience in preparation for their post-graduate careers.

International Film Festival: "Indigènes"/"Days of Glory"

Watch and discuss feature film about North African men who were drafted into the French Army to take part in the liberation of France in 1944-1945.

2pm-3pm International Education Week Keynote Lecture - Nandini Gunewardena Anthropologist Nandini Gunewardena will speak on "Global Crises, Translocal Uncertainties: Women and Millennial Resource Wars." Budig Theater
3pm-3:30pm Book Signing & Reception During the post-lecture reception books by Nandini Gunewardena will be on sale and available for signing. UC Main Lobby

12pm-1:30pm International Film Festival - "2 Million Minutes" Watch and discuss documentary film that chronicles the two million minutes that pass between when a student completes 8th grade and graduates high school, as experienced in China, India and the United States. SU 109
2pm-3:15pm College Life Abroad/Study Abroad Panel NKU international students will lead a discussion on college life abroad and past study abroad participants will talk about their experiences in other countries. BEP 200
6pm-6:45pm Study Abroad Presentation The Office of Education Abroad will present information on the many study abroad programs available to NKU students. Univ. Suites

The festival will offer a karate demonstration, Sakura chorus, calligraphy, Japanese snack tastings, Ikebana flower arrangements, and an opportunity to try on traditional Japanese clothing.

3:30pm-4:30pm Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society Induction New members of the Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society will be inducted. SU 108
6pm-8:30pm International Culture Fest Enjoy an international mini-potluck and entertainment during the final night of International Education Week.  Winners of the International Photo Contest will be announced. UC Ballroom
