Health and Safety

While most study abroad programs will have their own pre-departure orientation that covers site-specific health and safety issues, below are health and safety guidelines that pertain to all students studying abroad.

Health guidelines


  • Review NKU’s Health Questions & Answers for the Study Abroad Participant (link to document).
  • Read the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) information on the country you will be visiting.
  • Discuss the CDC’s travel health recommendations with your family physician at least two months prior to departure.
  • Find out if your study abroad program fees will include limited international health insurance coverage while abroad.
  • Contact your current health insurance provider to determine its international coverage.
