International Education Week 2009

International Education Week is a week filled with academic and cultural events that highlight the importance of having a globally-focused education. 1pm-2:15pm Survival Tips for International Students Prof. Ed Kwon will introduce issues potentially faced by international students studying in the U.S. and then lead a discussion about how to overcome those barriers. Student Union 105

Red Cross Presentation: International Humanitarian Law/ The Geneva Conventions...."All is not Fair in Love and War" (program info)
This presentation provides a basic introduction to International Humanitarian Law, the body of rules and principles that seeks to limit the conduct of war and protect the victims of armed conflict, more commonly referred to as the Geneva Conventions. It will explain the legal protections for people, combatant's civilians impacted by war, and the work of the Red Cross on behalf of those groups of people.

3:30pm-5pm Cultural Awareness Panel - Globalization:  Identity Based Conflicts (program info)
An open forum with international/minority students and staff to identify and resolve issues of identity-based conflicts. The intention is to bring cultural awareness along with a more conducive environment for academic growth to campuses all over.

International Film - "In the Name of God"

Watch and discuss this feature film about the situation of Muslims and, more specifically Pakistanis, following 9/11. This film examines the impact of 9/11 and the drift created between the Western World and Muslims as well as between Muslims.

This informal presentation and round table discussion will engage the audience in a dialogue about the West and Arabic cultures, with an added focus on Egypt and Lebanon. A panel discussion and question and answer session with members of the local business and non-profit community on the importance of international experience for future careers. 6pm-8:30pm International Film - "Au Revoir Les Enfants" Come and watch “Au Revoir les Enfants” as guests of the students of Phi Alpha Theta and the French Club. During WWII, in a Catholic boarding school in France, two boys become friends. One is Catholic and the other is a young Jew, who is being hidden from the Nazis by the friars who run the school. This critically-acclaimed movie by Louis Malle is inspired by the director’s personal experience during the war. If you have ever thought about teaching abroad and wondered how to submit a proposal, plan on attending this workshop and panel discussion led by veterans of CCSA, KIIS and NKU study abroad programs. This program is open to all part-time instructors, lecturers, tenure-track and tenured professors. Veterans of CCSA, KIIS and NKU study abroad programs will talk about their experiences, explain how to submit proposals and answer your questions. Bring your own lunch. Dessert will be provided.
