Peer Advisor
One of the ways that you can put your study abroad experience to good use is to become a peer advisor. Peer advisors are study abroad returnees who volunteer with the Office of Education Abroad to act as a resource for fellow NKU students who are planning to go abroad.
Why should you consider being a peer advisor?
- Students getting ready to go abroad will want to hear your stories, learn from your mistakes, take your suggestions, and share in your excitement about studying abroad.
- If you are an International Study Scholarship recipient, it is one of the ways you can fulfill your award requirement to support international education at NKU.
- It is a wonderful position to add to your résumé.
- It will make you feel good to know that the expertise you gained abroad is helping someone have an even better study abroad experience.
What are a peer advisor’s responsibilities?
- Each peer advisor must attend one of the brief Peer Study Abroad Advising orientations that are held at the beginning of each semester.
- The Office of Education Abroad's staff will refer interested students to peer advisors who have participated in the same or similar study abroad program. Peer advisors agree to set up a time to meet with inquiring students in order to talk to them about their experience and answer their questions. Inquiring students may also email or talk by phone with peer advisors if they are unable to meet in person.
- If available, peer advisors agree to assist the Office of Education Abroad in study abroad recruitment by volunteering at the Study Abroad Fair and participating in class visits.
- If available, peer advisors agree to assist the Office of Education Abroad in supporting the internationalization of NKU by volunteering at events such as the Global Perspectives Lecture Series and International Education Week.
How do you become a peer advisor?
