Meet with Your Advisor
In order to make sure the academic credit you receive through your study abroad program counts towards your NKU requirements, it is imperative that you meet with your academic advisor.
When meeting with your academic advisor:
-
Make sure to bring along descriptions of the program in which you are planning to participate and the course(s) you plan to take.
-
Explain to your advisor what NKU academic requirement(s) you believe should be fulfilled upon successful completion of the course(s).
-
If your advisor agrees that such a course will fulfill the specified NKU academic requirement, you should have that equivalency stated in writing by your advisor and keep it on file for your reference when you return.
Even if you do not know which courses you will be taking on your study abroad program, it is very important that you meet with your academic advisor in order to hear their perspective on your study abroad plans.
If you plan to have academic requirements from outside your major fulfilled with a study abroad course, you will also need to meet with and receive the approval of the department chair of that discipline.
Important information for seniors!
If you will be studying abroad during the last 30 hours of your bachelor’s degree program, you must have written approval to take classes off campus from the Associate/Assistant Dean of your major prior to leaving for your study abroad program.
