“One of the benefits of the summer abroad program in London that cannot be doubted is that I am now certified in a legal area that is new, challenging, and very unique. This area of law gives me advantage both in domestic and international arbitration.”

Non-NKU Programs

NKU students are welcome to study abroad through programs sponsored by another university or organization. However, to receive academic credit and be eligible to apply for NKU study abroad scholarships, students must receive approval for participation from the Office of Education Abroad.

Below are the steps for the non-NKU program approval process:

  • Contact OEA and make an appointment with Anne Perry. Bring all program information with you for your appointment.
  • If there appear to be no issues with your chosen non-NKU program, we will set up a time for you to meet with the Director of Education Abroad, Dr. François Le Roy, for final approval.

After receiving approval for your chosen study abroad program, consult with your academic advisor and/or department chairperson about your intentions to study abroad. If you know the specific courses that you intend to take on the study abroad program, speak with him/her about which, if any, degree requirements you would like to fulfill with each course.

If you wish for a transfer course to count for a specific degree requirement, you must request a memo (see sample below) from your department chairperson to the Office of the Registrar stating that equivalency is approved. Please provide a copy of this memo to the Office of Education Abroad.

You must provide the following documentation regarding your study abroad program to the Office of Education Abroad:

  • A copy of your completed program application
  • Acceptance letter from the program
  • Program itinerary
  • Contact information, both for the program and your emergency contact information

You can search for non-NKU programs through IIEPassport or StudyAbroad.com.
